ROAD RACE UP DATE
15/07/08
Since our last news feature a lot has happend in racing CAMERON DONALD won his first Isle of Man T T race by winning the Superbike TT and followed this with a Superstock win. TIM REEVES and PATRICK FARRANCE took third place in the first sidecar TT in their first visit to the T T. In his second visit to the TT STEVE PLATER took his first win in the first Supersport 600 race after BRUCE ANSTEY was excluded. BRUCE ANSTEY won the second Supersport 600 race on his Relentless Suzuki. JOHN McGUINNESS had mixed fortunes ater retiring from earlier races he won the Senior T T and now has matched MIKE HAILWOOD'S total of 14 TT race wins. In Moto G P CASEY STONER has had wins at Donington Assen and Germany. The 125cc class at Donington saw teenager SCOTT READING notch up his first GP victory at the age of 15 years old and in only his eigth GP race. VALENTINO ROSSI took 11 races to notch up his first GP win.
BYRNE LEADS TITLE RACE

Last weekend Shane Byrne took his Airwaves Ducati to a pair of race wins at the Oulton Park round of the British Superbike Championship. This was despite running wide at the chicane and dropping to 11th place in his second race. Leon Haslam finished in second place in the first Superbike race with James Ellison taking second place in the second Superbike race. Byrne's team mate Leon Camier notched up two third places. Chris Burns notched up second and third places in the Daily Star Cup part of these two races on his STP Motorsport backed M V Agusta and is currently second in the standings behind John Laverty. Despite retiring with a blown engine at the Thruxton round Ben Wilson finished in third place in the Henderson Yamaha R1 Cup Championship race. He also notched up a fifth place in the Metzeler National Superstock 1000cc Championship race on his 1000cc R1 Yamaha.
ROSSI WINS IN CHINA

Valentino Rossi claimed his first win in seven races when he won last weekends Moto GP championship round in China. Rossi also set a new lap record which stood since 2006 and was held by Dani Pedrosa who finished in second place. Rossi was also clocked at 212mph on the fastest part of the circuit but third placed Casey Stoner was clocked at 215mph at the same place. Jorge Lorenzo who is Rossi's team mate had a massive highside during Friday's practice and raced to fourth place despite racing with a fractured ankle. Colin Edwards started from pole but only managed seventh in the race with team mate James Toseland in 12th. Dani Pedrosa leads the championship standings with Lorenzo in second and Rossi in third.
CRUCHLOW'S FIRST BSB VICTORY

Last weekend saw the first British Superbike race action at Thruxton after the first round of the championship at Brands Hatch was cancelled due to snow. Shane Byrne was fastest after practice and started from pole position on his Airwaves Ducati. Byrne won the first superbike race with Cal Cruchlow on his H M Plant Honda in second and Michael Rutter in third place. Cruchlow went one better in the second superbike race making it his first British superbike championship win. Shane Byrne was second with Michael Rutter again in third place. Chris Burns rode very well and finished in second place in The Daily Star Cup championship part of the race in the first race. During his second race he retired with clucth problems on his STP backed MV Agusta. Former STP team member Victor Cox who this season is running his own team VC Motorsport took his Yamaha R1 to tenth place in the 1000cc superstock race.
LORENZO WINS PORTUGUESE MOTO GP

Jorge Lorenzo notched up his first moto GP victory at the Portuguese round of the championship at Estoril. In the early stages he was in second place behind team mate Valentino Rossi but once he made his move and passed Rossi he started to pull out a gap. Winner from the last round Dani Pedrosa also passed Rossi to claim second place but was unable to catch Lorenzo. Lorenzo and fellow Spanish rider Pedrosa are now joint leaders in the championship standings. Valentino Rossi finished in third place and this gave him his ninth podium finish in moto GP at the Estoril circuit. The Tech 3 race team of Colin Edwards and James Toseland had their new engines for this event and put in a strong performance. Edwards finished in fourth while Toseland finished in seventh at his first visit to the circuit. Toseland also had his contract with Tech 3 extended for a second season which he was very happy with. Defending Champion Casey Stoner worked his way up to sixth place.
PEDROSA POWERS TO SPAINISH VICTORY

Last weekend saw the second round of the moto GP championships held at Jerez in Spain. Dani Pedrosa dominated the race which he led from the early stages to the finish on his factory Honda. Defending Champion Casey Stoner made a couple of errors and took to the gravel trap and finished in 11th. Multiple Champion Valentino Rossi finished in second place with his team mate Jorge Lorenzo in third on their factory Yamahas. Double World Superbike champion James Toseland put in another strong finish and was in fifth place going into the last corner on the last lap but was demoted to sixth place in the dash for the line. Toseland's team mate former World Superbike Champion Colin Edwards slid off his machine but escaped unhurt.
DOBSON DONINGTON DRAMA
27/03/08
The first round of the MRO championships were held last weekend at Donington Park. Wiltshire based Richard Dobson had mixed fortunes in the 1000cc superstock race. After free practice he was third fastest and in the two qualifying sessions on Saturday was 12th and 5th fastest despite a sleet storm. He started from sixth on the grid and made a great start and led in to the first corner in very wet and slippery conditions. He was soon demoted to third place but still in contention but the first two crashed out taking Dobson with them. Richard said afterwards that despite the crash he was still pleased with the weekend.He is shortly off to Spain to do some testing before the next round at Snetterton on the 12th of April.
BRIDEWELL HEADS FOR EUROPE

Tommy Bridewell is to compete in two major Europen Championships in 2008. The 18 year old Wiltshire based rider is to use a pair of Suzuki GSXR 1000cc K7s for the Italian Superbike championship. The second championship is the Suzuki GSXR 750cc European cup where back in 2006 Tommy finished on the podium at Silverstone in this championship.Tommy's first outing this season is in the Suzuki GSXR cup round at Valencia on the 6th of April.
TOSELAND SIXTH AT QATAR NIGHT RACE

James Toseland notched up sixth place in his first Moto GP race at Qatar last weekend. This was the first ever G P race to be held under floodlight conditions the race was won by Defending Champion Casey Stoner on his factory Ducati. Double World Superbike champion Toseland started from second on the grid and stayed up with the front runners through out the race. At the finish Toseland was just behind five times World Champion Valentino Rossi and a head of his Yamaha Tech 3 team mate Colin Edwards.
BAYLISS HOME DOUBLE

Last weekend the second round of the World Superbike Championship was held at Phillip Island in Australia. Former World Superbike Champion Troy Bayliss won both races on his Ducati Xerox backed machine. He dominated race one and led from start to finish with fellow Australian Troy Corser in second place. Yamaha mounted Corser led during the early stages of race two but crashed out leaving Bayliss to take victory. Max Biaggi crashed out of both races with the second crash leaving him with a broken wrist. Bayliss has notched up three wins out of four races and currently leads the Championship. The supersport 600cc race saw five riders dicing for first all the way to the last lap. Former Champion Andrew Pitt won on his Hanspree Ten Kate backed Honda. Joshua Brookes was second with Robbin Harms third. Former British Superbike competitor Jonathan Rea finished in fifth place and Gary McCoy in sixth. winner of the last round, Broc Parkes crashed out.
DOBSON TESTS AT VALENCIA

Wiltshire based superstock competitor Richard Dobson has returned from a recent test session in Valencia in Spain. In only his third full season of racing Richard will be competing in the 2008 MRO Superstock 1000cc Championship on a R1 1000cc Yamaha. The session at Valencia gave Richard a chance to mainly do suspension and tyre testing. After the session Richard said that he was looking foward to this season and the bike went well. In his first full season back in 2006 Richard won the N G Road Racing Novice 1000cc Championship riding a 600cc Suzuki and last season he competed in the National Superstock cup. Richard's best ride in this series was holding 12th place at Croft before retiring. He also finished in seventh place in the Castle Combe Grand National superbike race.
CORSER 41st POLE WORLD SUPERBIKES

Last weekend the opening round of the 2008 World superbike championship was held at the Losail circuit in Qatar. Yamaha motor Italia wsb team rider Troy Corser started from pole in the main World superbike races making it his 41st pole of his World superbike career. Troy Bayliss notched up first and fourth in his two races on his Ducati Xerox backed machine and now has a slight lead in the championship standings. Max Biaggi took his Sterilgarda Go Eleven backed Ducati to second and fourth and is in second place in the standings. Troy Corser was third in the first race while Nieto and Xaus took first and second in the second race. The supersport 600 race saw two British riders finish in the top ten. Craig Jones who started from the front row of the grid took his Portuguese backed team Parkalgar Honda to third place. Britain's Chris Walker took his Kawasaki to ninth but the race was won by Broc Parkes on a Yamaha.
HIGGINS GEARS UP FOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Wiltshire based Darrell Higgins is to compete in this seasons National 250cc Championship. Now fully recovered from his 150 mph crash at Castle Combe last season which saw him brake his right lower leg and ankle in five places. Darrell had an eight hour operation along with two metal plates and around 20 screws to repair the broken bits of bone. After many years of racing Darrell
recently said that it was about his 69th broken bone but he has also notched up around 127 race wins.
OLLIE'S TRIBUTE MINI

During the final British Superbike Championship round at Brands Hatch Tommy Bridewell and Sister Charlotte did a parade lap in a special Mini dedicated to their late brother Ollie. Ollie was killed during practice at Mallory Park back in July but had the idea of putting a tuned R1 engine into the boot of a Mini. This project has since been completed by Tommy and some of Ollie's friends and was well worth all the hard work. The response the spectators gave to Tommy and Charlotte on their lap showed how well Ollie was liked.

Last weekend saw the final round of the British Superbike Championship held at Brands Hatch. Gregorio Lavilla took his Airwaves Ducati to two race wins from H M Plant Honda mounted Jonathan Rea who notched up two seconds. Rea's team mate defending champion Ryuichi Kiyonari finished in third place in race one and won the championship, then finished fourth in race two. TOSELAND WINS SECOND WORLD SUPERBIKE CROWN

Last weekend James Toseland finished in seventh and sixth place at the last round of the World Superbike championship at Magny Cours. This gave him the title by just two points from double race winner Noriyuki Haga. This was Toselands last World Superbike race for the Hannspree Honda team rider as next season he moves to the Moto GP championship. NICKLESS WINS 125cc CHAMPIONSHIP

Wiltshire teenager Freedie Nickless from Chippenham won the DTR backed 125cc championship at the final round of the N G Road Racing club championship round at Thruxton.Despite retiring from his qualifying race with a cracked cylinder head the team worked hard and Freddie was on the grid for the final. Despite starting from the back of the grid Freddie finished in ninth place and won the championship by one point from Andrew Cotton. Freddie is the son of former N G Road Race champion Mike Nickless who won the 600cc open in 1992 this is only the third father and son pairing to notch up championship wins in the clubs 37 year history.
BIAGGI AND BAYLISS SHARE VICTORY

Last weekend at the penultimate round of the World Superbike championship at Vallelunga in Italy Max Biaggi and Troy Bayliss notched up a win each. Britain's James Toseland finished third in the first race and 11th in the second race despite crashing on lap nine. Toseland now has a 29 point lead over Max Biaggi in seond place with the final round this weekend at Magny Cours.
BRIDEWELL MAKES WECOME RETURN

Last weekend Tommy Bridewell made a welcome return to the British Superbike Championship. It was his first British superbike meeting since the tragic death of his older brother Ollie at Mallory Park back in July. Despite a 130mph crash during practice Tommy finished in 18th and 19th places in his two races to the delight of the many spectators. At the next round at Brands Hatch Tommy will do a few laps in a mini with a R1 engine in it.This was a project that he started with Ollie but has been finished by Tommy and some of Ollie's friends.

Last weekend at the seventh round of the British Superbike championship round at Knockhill Jonathan Rea notched up a double win after starting from pole position. Rea's team mate Ryulchi Kiyonari finished in second and third places but still leads the championship with Rea now in second place in the championship. Leon Haslam took his Airwaves Ducati to third and second places in his two races. Ollie Bridewell notched up eighth and tenth places in his two races after starting from 17th on the grid on his N B racing Suzuki.

Leon Haslam and Jonathan Rea notched up one win each at the sixth round of the British superbike championship round at Mondello Park in Ireland. Former British superbike champion Shane Bryne finished second in both races despite leading most of the second race. Gregorio Lavilla started from 12th on the grid but still managed to get two third places riding his Airwaves racing Ducati. Ryulchi Kiyonari finished in fifth places in both races but now leads the championship by just one point ahead of Gregorio Lavilla.

Former World superbike champion Troy Bayliss won both world superbike races at the latest round of the World superbike championship at San marino. Bayliss has now closed the gap on championship leader James Toseland to just 21 points. Toseland finished in fourth and sixth places in his two races. Bayliss was followed home by fellow Australian Troy Corser in second and Yukio Kagayama in third in the first race. Noriyuki Haga and Max Biaggi notched up second and third in the second race after both crashing out of the first race.

HONDA FIVE T T WINS

H M Plant Honda took five race wins from six starts at the centenary T T races on the Isle of Man. John McGuinness won both the superbike T T and the senior T T. During the senior T T McGuinness set a new outright lap record in a time of 17 minutes 21.99 seconds and a speed of 130.35 mph. Dave Molyneux and Rick Long won both sidecar races. Ian Huchinson took his H M Plant 600cc Honda to victory in the supersport T T. 37 year old New Zealander Bruce Anstey took his Relentless Tas backed Suzuki to victory in the superstock T T race. The senior T T was marred by the death of newcomer Marc Ramsbotham along with two spectators when he crashed on the last lap at the 26th milestone.
BAYLISS WINS RAIN SOAKED SILVERSTONE

Former World Superbike Champion Troy Bayliss splashed his way to victory in last Sunday's World Superbike championship round at Silverstone. Noriyuki Haga was second with his team mate Troy Corser in third place. Britain's James Toseland crashed but remounted to finish in eighth place. He still currently leads the championship but Haga is now only 23 points behind in second place. The seond superbike race was cancelled due to the weather conditions.

Last weekend saw the fifth round of the British Superbike championship held at Snetterton.Defending Champion Ryulchi Kiyonari won both superbike races on his H M Plant backed Honda with team mate Jonathan Rea in second place in both races. Leon Haslam finished in third place in the first race and after retiring from the first race Shane Byrne finished in third in the second race. Gregorio Lavilla retired from the second race so Kiyonari now leads the championship. leon Camier despite starting from the back of the grid had his best result with fifth place in the first race. Both Bridewell Brothers notched up a top ten finish when Tommy finished tenth in the first race and elder brother Ollie finished tenth in the second.

HAGA DOUBLE WIN AT MONZA

Last weekend Noriyuki Haga notched up a double victory at the World Superbike Championship round at Monza. Haga started both races from pole position after being fastest during superpole. James Toseland meanwhile made a mistake during his superpole and started from fourth on the grid. Troy Bayliss finished the first race in second place behind Haga and in front of Max Biaggi with Toseland in fourth. Toseland finished on the podium in second place in the second race with Troy Bayliss only .15 of a second behind Toseland in third. Toseland still leads the championship with Haga in second and Biaggi in third.

Last weekend Gregorio Lavilla and Ryulchi Kiyonari notched up one win each at the fourth round of the British Superbike Championship at Oulton Park. Leon Haslam took his Airwaves Ducati to two second places just nine days after his dramatic high speed crash during qualifing at the Silverstone round of the Championship. Kiyonari finished the first race in third place on his H M Plant backed Honda.Shane Byrne took his Stobart Vent Axia Motorsport backed Honda to third in the second race with Lavilla in fourth.Once again Ollie and Tommy Bridewell had some very close dices with Ollie getting the better of Tommy. Ollie finished 13th in the first race with Tommy in 14th and in the second race Ollie finished in 11th with Tommy in 12th.

Last weekend saw the third round of the British superbike championship held at Silverstone. In dry but overcast weather conditions defending British superbike champion Ryuichi Kiyonari took his HM Plant backed Honda to two race wins and is currently second in the championship. Lower down the field Ollie and Tom Bridewell had two great dices in both races with Tommy getting the better of Ollie. In the first superbike race Tommy was dicing Michael Rutter for tenth place but in the closing stages Tommy got passed by Cal Cruchlow and had to settle for 12th with Ollie in 13th. In the second race Ollie led Tommy in the early stages and they had a wheel to wheel dice for tenth place. Once again Tommy got the better of Ollie and finished in tenth with Ollie in 11th.

Last weekend at the fifth round of the World Superbike championship at Assen in Holland James Toseland notched up first and second to take a 32 point lead in the championship. Toseland dominated the first race but was locked in a wheel to wheel dice with Troy Bayliss in the second race. Bayliss got the better of Toseland and won the second race with Toseland in second place and Max Biaggi in third.

LAVILLA DOUBLE AT THRUXTON

Gregorio Lavilla notched up two wins from two starts at the second round of the British Superbike round at Thruxton in hot and sunny weather. Leon Camier notched up his third podium finish so far this season with second place in the first superbike race and followed this up with fifth in the second race. Leon Camier is currently second in the championship standings behind Gregorio Lavilla. Pole position rider Tommy Hill finished in eighth and tenth in his two races. Defending champion Ryuichi Kiyonari finished in third and second places and is currently fourth in the championship.

TOSELAND FIRST WIN AT VALENCIA

Last weekend saw the fourth round of the World Superbike Championship held at Valencia in Spain.Ruben Xaus won the first race on his team Sterilgarda backed Ducati with James Toseland in fifth place. James Toseland took his Hannspree ten Kate backed Honda to victory in the second race making it Toseland's first ever win at the circuit. He continues to lead the championship. Noriyuki Haga finished in second and third places in his two races on his Yamaha Motor Italia backed yamaha.

LAVILLA DOUBLE WIN AT BRANDS

Former British Superbike Champion Gregorio Lavilla notched up a double win on his Airwaves backed Ducati at the opening round of the British Superbike Championship at Brands Hatch last weekend. During qualifying Honda's Jonathan Rea set the fastest ever two wheeled lap of the G P circuit in a time of 1 minute 25.23 seconds and a speed of 97.18 mph. Rea finished the first race in third place and went one better in the second race with a second place. Former Supersport competitor Leon Camier finished in second and third in his two races.

HAGA WINS EPIC DICE

On the 1st of April the third round of the World Superbike Championship was held at Donington Park in windy but dry conditions. Troy Bayliss started from pole position but slid off his machine in the early stages of the first race. James Toseland who was in second place held on to his lead untill the finish with Troy Corser in second and Max Biaggi in third. James Toseland retired from the second race while leading. This left Noriyuki Haga, Max Biaggi, and Troy Corser fighting for position all the way to the flag. Biaggi was leading going in to the last corner on the last lap but Haga just managed to get by to claim the race win. James Toseland still leads the championship.

FRICKER CONFIDENT AFTER TESTS

National Superstock Cup competitor Damien Fricker is looking foward to this coming season despite the wet and windy conditions at Snetterton recently. He will be competing on the same Suzuki GSXR 1000cc K6 that he used last season. At Snetterton he was ninth fastest overall and third fastest cup competitor on the Saturday. On Monday he attended a track day at Brands Hatch and went faster than his times last season.
BAYLISS WINS IN AUSTRALIA

Troy Bayliss and James Toseland both notched up a race win and second place in the second round of the World Superbike Championship round at Phillip Island in Australia. Bayliss who started from pole won the first race with James Toseland in second. Toseland started from second on the grid and won the second race and leads the championship standings from Max Biaggi by 16 points who finished in third and fourth in his two races. Bayliss finished in second place in the second race and is currently third in the championship standings.

TOSELAND LEADS WORLD SUPERBIKES

Britain's James Toseland made a great start to the World Superbike Championship in Qatar. Toseland who won the Championship in 2004 finished his first race in second place behind former Moto G P competitor Max Biaggi at the Losail circuit near Doha. Toseland went one better in his second race and took his Ten Kate backed Honda to a race win, with Biaggi in second place. Former World Champion Troy Corser finished in third. Defending Champion Troy Bayliss took his Ducati to fifth and seventh in his two races.
